ASBESTOS REMOVAL & ABATEMENT — BOISE & THE TREASURE VALLEY
Asbestos Abatement in Boise, ID
Many Boise-area homes built before 1980 contain asbestos in materials that were standard at the time: popcorn ceilings, vinyl floor tile and its adhesive, pipe insulation, and some siding and roofing products. Asbestos is most dangerous when those materials are disturbed, because fibers can become airborne. Boise Restoration removes asbestos-containing materials carefully, under containment, and disposes of them as required by applicable regulations, so a remodel or repair can proceed without spreading the problem through the house.

Where Asbestos Shows Up in Pre-1980 Homes
Asbestos was valued for heat resistance and durability, so it appears in a surprising number of places. The most common residential examples we see are popcorn or textured ceilings, 9-inch vinyl floor tiles and the mastic underneath them, pipe wrap and boiler insulation, and some duct, siding, and roofing materials. A material cannot be identified by sight alone, so suspected material should be tested before it is disturbed.
If you are planning a remodel, a flooring replacement, a ceiling removal, or plumbing work in an older home, check first. Removing a ceiling or pulling up old tile without knowing what is in it can turn a contained job into contamination across several rooms, with cleaning and disposal costs that far exceed the original project.
Popcorn Ceilings, Floor Tile, and Pipe Wrap
Popcorn ceilings are one of the most common asbestos concerns in Boise homes, because the texture itself can contain asbestos and because removal disturbs a large surface area. We remove it under containment, with wet methods and careful cleanup, rather than dry scraping it into the air and the rest of the home.
Vinyl floor tile and pipe wrap need a different approach. Tile is often removed in pieces with adhesive beneath it, and pipe insulation may be friable, meaning it crumbles easily and releases fibers. Each material is handled according to its condition and the work plan for the room, and the area is cleaned thoroughly before containment comes down.
Containment and Safe Removal, Step by Step
Safe abatement is a process, not a single step. The work area is sealed off from the rest of the home with plastic sheeting, with negative air pressure and filtration used where appropriate, so fibers stay inside the containment. Workers use protective equipment and wet methods to keep dust down, and materials are bagged, sealed, and labeled as they are removed.
After removal, the area is cleaned in stages, including HEPA vacuuming and wet wiping of surfaces inside the containment, and a visual clearance check before the space is released. We will explain what was removed, what remains in place if anything, and what the next trade can safely do in the room.
Disposal Per Applicable Regulations
Asbestos waste is not ordinary construction debris. It must be sealed, labeled, transported, and disposed of at facilities permitted to accept it, following applicable federal, state, and local requirements. We handle that disposal chain for the material we remove, and we keep records of the work and disposal so you have documentation for a future sale, remodel, or insurance file.
Do not put suspected asbestos material in household trash, a regular dumpster, or a burn pile, and do not let an unprepared contractor remove it as part of a general demolition. If material has already been disturbed, stop work, leave the area, and call us so the spread can be assessed and cleaned up properly.
When Removal Is Not the Right First Step
Not every asbestos-containing material needs immediate removal. Material that is intact, undamaged, and unlikely to be disturbed is often lower risk than material that is being cut, sanded, or demolished. During an inspection we can discuss whether removal, repair, or leaving the material undisturbed and monitored makes sense for your plans, and what would change that recommendation if you remodel later.
